![]() Oxygen transfer into the aeration basins is provided by flexible membrane fine bubble diffusers. These microorganisms utilize the organic material found in the wastewater in their metabolisms. These aeration basins provide the reaction basins for the contact between the waste material and large quantities of bacteria and other microorganisms. Gravity removal of solid particles occurs in these tanks.įollowing primary clarification the wastewater is combined with the return activated sludge from the final clarifiers in a flow distribution splitter box and sent to four aeration basins. ![]() The wastewater is discharged into two 80-foot diameter primary clarifier tanks. The grit is deposited in a container for disposal at the landfill and the water returns to the main flow to the primary clarifiers. Here the wastewater travels through a centrifugal basin where the grit is collected on the bottom of the tanks and is pumped via recessed impeller grit pumps to the two dewatering screws. Each of these three tanks has a holding capacity of 2.5 MG for a total of 7.5 MD.įrom the main pumping station the waste flow is pumped to the grit removal facility. Wastes from these equalization basins will be brought back to the head of the treatment plant for processing. There are three equalization basins to which the flow may be diverted for daily flow equalization, high-flow events or for storage of difficult to treat wastes. The plant is designed for 11.25 MGD with a maximum treatable flow of 22MGD and the capability of pumping 42 MGD. Following screening, the flow is pumped by any of six vertical turbine solids handling pumps each capable of pumping 8.2 million gallons per day (MGD) for a firm pumping capacity of 42 MGD with one spare. This machine removes large objects such as sticks, rags and other material that may prove harmful to downstream plant equipment. The first step in the system is a pair of mechanically-raked barscreens. The waste flow, comprised of domestic, commercial and industrial wastewater from the municipalities of Mankato, North Mankato, Eagle Lake, a portion of South Bend Township, Skyline and Lake Washington Sanitary Sewer District is pumped to the Mankato Water Resource Recovery Facility from a series of lift stations throughout the system.
